Make your own landing page! If you don’t know already, see how with this easy guide…

Designing landing pages with photoshop is a really super effective way of producing your own landing pages in a short amount of time. This method is great for making landing pages for PPV, POF, and Facebook. It’s best suited to landing pages that are small enough to fit above the fold.

You probably remember not too long back when the Walmart riots happened on Black Friday, 2011. Jeeze some people are hard up for a bargain. I was watching TV with my girlfriend here in Australia when I first saw the scenes of grandpa getting his face owned, chubby guys ass crack flashing the security camera, and a crazy women spraying fellow shoppers in the FACE with mace. All over a $2 Waffle Iron.. among other things.

By the time I’d watched one of the videos it had 60,000 plus views. I thought: Here’s a perfect opportunity to capitalize on a massive surge of traffic. There was tons of videos of the carnage uploaded to youtube, tons of news sites getting traffic and all of the keywords like “Walmart riots”.

These are the kind of targets I bid on. Driving traffic through Traffic Vance.

There were a number of ways to monetize this. I didn’t really put too much thought into it though. I found a $1000 Visa Gift card email submit, made specifically for Black Friday.

For the landing page I decided that something controversial would be needed to grab the users attention. The headline said “Black Friday Sales Banned?” I got them to vote if they thought the Black Friday Sales should be banned, then sent them through to the offer.

The landing page worked very well because:

1. I set the expectations so the users knows that they’re going to get a $1000 gift card. Setting expectations upfront helps conversions greatly.

2. Shock tactics and controversy work with PPV. If you’re going to interupt peoples browsing by springing a pop-up, the shock factor helps to grab their attention. The youtube video footage on auto play was very shocking.

3. By asking them to vote, it becomes more engaging and interactive.

This campaign made hundreds of $$$ in a matter of hours. Turns out the news IS good for something.

WANT EXTRAS WITH THAT?

1. To make a Youtube video autoplay add this code snippet to the youtube embed code as shown below:

&autoplay=1

<object width=”407″ height=”245″>
<param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/jYeDRKB1RXw&autoplay=1″ />
<param name=”allowfullscreen” value=”true” />
<param name=”allowscriptaccess” value=”always” /><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/jYeDRKB1RXw&autoplay=1″ type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” width=”407″ height=”245″ allowscriptaccess=”always” allowfullscreen=”true”></embed></object>

2. The simple script for the Yes/No vote:

<form name=”form1″ method=”Post” action=”radioButton.php”><input name=”gender” value=”male” type=”radio” />Yes<input name=”gender” value=”female” type=”radio” />No</form>

On most major Pay Per Click platforms, there is a little known feature called “Dynamic Keyword Insertion”. Dynamic Keyword Insertion is one of those “dirty little secrets” used by PPC marketing agencies and is the cornerstone of the millions of Internet marketing eBooks written by self proclaimed “gurus”.

It also goes gangbusters on PPV landing pages. Dynamic Keyword Insertion needs to be fully understood before it can become marginally effective and when it is, it can increase your landing page click through rate massively. I’ve seen it increase CTR by 5% and more. In the right circumstances of course.

This guide will show you how to correctly implement the Dynamic Keyword Insertion feature into your landing pages.

Dynamic Keyword Insertion comes in really handy when you want that little bit of extra relevance with your targeting. When popping a landing page on a target like walmart.com, you can’t claim that you are from walmart, you can say something along the lines of “ATTENTION WALMART.COM SHOPPERS! YOU’VE QUALIFIED FOR OUR SPECIAL OFFER!”.

When you’ve got a number of targets in your campaign, the keyword insertion script inserts your target URL or keyword wherever you want it for extra relevance.

An example of how you could use dynamic keyword insertion on a PPV landing page

How does it work?

The first part of this script goes directly above ALL of the code for your landing page.

<?

//grab t202 keyword
$keyword = $_GET['t202kw'];

//if a yahoo keyword exists, over-write the t202 keyword
//for Yahoo OVKEY = the bidded keyword, OVRAW = actual keyword
//you can change $_GET['OVRAW'] to $_GET['OVKEY'] if you would
//like to display the bidded keyword, instead of the actual keyword.
if ($_GET['OVKEY']) { $keyword = $_GET['OVKEY']; }

//now anywhere we call echo $keyword, it will display the dynamic kw!

//extra goodie, uncomment the line below if you would like to capitalize
//the first character in each word
//$keyword = ucwords(strtolower($keyword));

?>

The next part goes wherever you want the target keyword or URL to show up:

<? echo $keyword; ?>

The key to making this work is to save your landing page as a .php file.

Not a .html file. It won’t work.

So now that you’ve got the code inserted let’s test it out. Set up your tracking as normal. I use Prosper 202. You’ll have a destination URL something like this:

http://yourdomain/folder1/index2.php?t202id=8812&t202kw=

Just type in the target directly at the end of your densination URL and it will insert your dynamic keyword in place.

http://yourdomain/folder1/index2.php?t202id=8812&t202kw=bestbuy.com

Get creative with this and you’ll be rewarded. Use it in your Headlines, body text or wherever. Test and profit!

Being an affiliate marketer offers many opportunities. The business is very scalable. You’re not limited to a local market like more traditional businesses. You can make thousands of dollars a day from home without ever bothering to put clothes on. (What? We’re all naked in the eyes of the lord.) One of the most appealing things to me though is the luxury of running your business from any where in the world where you can access the internet.

With the rapidly advancing technology of smart phones this has become even easier. The battle between high-end smartphones is getting hotter by the day, with two most talked-about phones being Samsung Galaxy S2 and Apple iPhone 4S.

I opted for the Galaxy S2. It just makes me feel more futuristic.

Galaxy S2 is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 Mali-400MP GPU Orion chipset, and has a nice large screen. The speed that it browses the internet almost matches the landline connection at home. It’s super fast. Hooking up to the net through your laptop is very easy with the Samsung wireless hotspot. I’ve probably been doing 70% of my marketing while traveling around the country side, and it handles the work load with ease. I’m sitting in an apartment near the beach right now.

It has all the bells and whistles that new smart phones have, HD camera, loads of storage, bluetooth etc. What I really like is it’s ability to navigate with GPS. No more bulky maps in the van.

What else is there…. Skype 24/7. Staying in touch with affiliate managers and networking with other affiliates has never been easier. Checking emails, Facebook and the lists goes on. The awesomeness of this phone is outstanding. The only thing it doesn’t do is make my coffee in the morning.

If you’re thinking about traveling while still running your business, get onto one of these good things.

Since I stared PPV marketing I have tried a lot of PPV Landing page designs. Most of them tanked, but there’s been a few that have performed really well. I’m slowly getting an idea of what works with PPV. I’ve seen the value of optimizing your landing pages into profitability even if they fail at first.

This campaign was a short form lead gen biz opp offer. I was targeting 1 high traffic domain for this campaign so the first thing i did was mimicked the target website for my LP by taking a screen shot with Snagit.

Then I opened it up in Photoshop and removed the logos and text while keeping the header and background colors.

The next step was to ad the copy. In the header area I added “Welcome xxx.com Visitor!” using the same header font color from the target URL on my LP.

The copy for the LP went along the lines of ” You have been selected for a special offer. Act now to get paid to blah, blah blah”. Followed by some bullet points consisting of the ways people could make money by completing the offer on the next page. Again using the same font and colors that were on the target URL.

The were no images on this LP.

I made 2 variations of the LP with the only difference being the CTA buttons. CTA buttons made in the same colors as the target URL. “YES! Sign me up!” and “Continue” were the two buttons.

After letting this run for a day or two, one button out performed the other one with a 6.98% CTR compared to a 4.9% CTR. It generated some leads but was still the red zone losing money.

I thought the CTR was decent enough so I tested similar offers on the back end. After rotating the 3 different offers with the best preforming landing page I found the ugliest offer Landing page got 90% of the conversions, so I went with that offer. It’s interesting how the ugliest offer page converted the best. I would have chosen the “more professional and polished” offer LPs, so that goes to show that you should always test despite what you think will work.

What else could I do to get this into the green? The next thing I tried was to add some audio. The audio basically said the sub headline out loud. I was hoping it would grab the attention of the visitor more. To my surprise this actually hurt the CTR and conversions.

What next? I had this crazy idea the next day while driving down the highway. (This one actually worked unlike my previous idea of a landing page that injects a smell through the users computer to trigger a higher response level.)

My idea… Using a survey to engage the user … with a series of questions.

I thought “What series of questions could I ask the visitor that would lead them to the conclusion that completing the offer is the only logical choice, and to not complete it would seem silly?”

Imagine this scenario for a second: You’ve just busted your ass at your job all week, it’s Friday afternoon and your boss comes into the office and places your pay packet – a noice pile of crisp $100 bills on the table for you.

Would you leave it there?

No way, you’ve earned that money! Of course you’ll take it! Well that’s the same feeling I wanted the user to have after completing the survey. Or as close to it as I could get.

The next part was simple, ask them 4 to 5 questions to which I know the answer would be “Yes”. This get’s them in the yes frame of mind and more ready to comply and fill out the offer. These were questions that would qualify them for the offer.

The Final Landing Page

Note: For this to work the only options to the questions can be “yes” or “no”. At the end of the survey some text like “congrats! You’ve earned … Claim your xxx here now!”

This worked surprising well. The CTR went up to 13.04% and conversions increased from 1 per day to 6 per day with the same test budget. Now this was in the green.

I thought to ad a count down timer to further increase the CTR and ROI.

I added some more text to the sub headline : “Take our quick 60 second survey”. And placed the timer at the bottom of the landing page set to countdown from 60 seconds.

This increased the CTR to 20.00% and further increased the ROI. Timers don’t always work but it did the job in this case.

So that’s how I took a losing campaign into a winning campaign. This technique could be used on a variety of different offers, so I’m keen to try this out in some other niches.

For anyone with ADHD who just scrolled to the bottom of this post here’s what I learned from this campaign

"Optimized Your LP And It Gets No Traffic?"

. Mimicking the target URL on your LP works well. So long as it’s a high traffic target. It’s frustrating when you go to town optimizing your LP and you get it into the green. Then you set your budget to $500 a day and open the flood gates to a torrent of money, but it still only chews $12.14 per day. DOH!!

Engaging the user with a survey increases CTR

Asking 3-5 questions in surveys to which they’ll answer “yes” works like simpsons donkey

Countdown timers work well to increase CTR

Inter-activity pays on PPV landing pages

few that have performed really well. I’m slowly getting an idea of what works with PPV. I’ve seen the value of

optimizing your landing pages into proftabilty even if they fail at first.

This campaign was a short form lead gen biz opp offer. I was targeting 1 high traffic domain for this campaign so

the first thing i did was mimicked the target website for my LP by taking a screenshot with Snagit.

Then I opened it up in Photoshop and remeoved the logos and text while keeping the header and background colours.

The next step was to ad the copy. In the header area i added “Welcome xxx.com Visitor!” using the same header

font colour from the target URL on my LP.

The copy for the LP went along the lines of ” You have been selcted for a special offer. Act now to get paid to

blah, blah blah”. Followede by some bullet pionts consisting of the ways people could make money by completing

the on the next page. Again using the same font and colours that weee on the target URL.

The was no pic on this LP.

I made 2 variations of the LP with the only difference being the CTA buttons. CTA buttons made in the same

colours as the traget URL. “YES! Sign me up!” and “Continue”

After letting this run for a day or two, one buttin out performed the other one with a 6.98% CTR compaered to a

4.9% CTR. It generated some leads but was still the red zone losing money.

I thought the CTR was decent enough so I tested similar offers on the back end. After roatating the 3 different

offers with the best preforming LP I found the ugliest offer LP got 90% of the conversions so I went with that

offer. It’s interesting how the ugliest offer page converted the best, I would have chosen the 2 “more

professional and polished” offer LPs so that goes to show that you should always test despite what you think will

work.

What else could I do to get this into the green? The next thing I tried was to add some audio. The audio

basically said the sub headline out loud. I was hoping it would grab the attention of the visitor more. To my

surprise this actually hurt the CTR and conversions.

What next? I had this crazy idea the next day while driving down the highway. (This one actually worked unlike my

previous idea of a landing page that injects a smell through the users computer to trigger a higher response

level.)
Using a survey to engage the user and a little … with the questions. I thought “What series of questions colud

I ask the visitor that would lead them to the conclusion that completing the offer is the only logical choice,

and to not complete it would seem silly?”

Imagine this senario for a second: You’ve just busted your ass at your job all week, it’s Friday afternoon and

your boss comes into the office and places your pay packet – a noice pile of crisp $100 bills on the table for

you.

Would you leave it there?

No way, you’ve earned that money! Of course you’ll take it! Well that’s the same feeling i wanted the user to

have after completing the survey. Or as close to it as I could get.

The next part was simple, ask them 4 to 5 questions to which I know the answer would be “Yes”. This get’s them in

the yes frame of mind and more ready to comply and fill out the offer. These were questions that would qualify

them for the offer. Note: For this to work the only options tp the questions can be “yes” or “no”. At the end of

the survey some text like “congrats! You’ve earned … Claim your xxx here now!”

This worked surprising well. The CTR went up to 13.04% and conversions increased from 1 per day to 6 per day with

the same test budget. Now this was in the green.

I thought to ad a count down timer to firther increase the CTR and ROI. I added some more text to the sub

headline : “Take our quick 60 second survey”. And place the timer at the bottom set to countdown from 60 seconds.

This increased the CTR to 20.00% and further increased the ROI. Timers don’t always work but it did the job in

this case.

So that’s how I took a losing campaign into a winning campign. Interactivity pays.This technique could be used on

a variaty of different offers, so I’m keen to try this out in some other niches.

Recently I have started doing some more direct linking campaigns using Lead Impact. They are brain dead simple and take about 10 – 20 mins to set up. I’ve been doing this in the dating niche. “Oh great, another affiliate marketing retard coming into an already over-crowded niche with no creativity. Have fun draining your budget. You’d probably have more luck trying to ad an inch and a half to your schlong in 2 weeks”, (gotta love those banner ads. )

Still Works!!

Not necessarily. You see you can still make money doing these kind of campaigns if you take a slightly different angle to everyone else. To get away from the mass crowds of affiliates I tried running international campaigns. And not just in the UK, Australia and NZ. No, I’m talking about high traffic low competition markets like Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany and Eastern European countries. Not many affiliates are targeting these countries.

There is a shit load of traffic in these countries using Lead Impact, and not much competition. On most of the targets there was VERY LITTLE to no competition. Another thing I tried doing is targeting keywords with surprising success. It is a common belief among many affiliates that targeting URLs produces a much higher ROI, but from my testing I have found that not to be true. Many of my campaigns i have started with a 50/50 mix of keywords and URLs. And in the case of direct linking campaigns in Ireland, keywords have been the best performer, producing an ROI of around 98%. Not bad for a brain dead simple campaign.

So even if you are feeling lazy it’s still possible to get some profitable campaigns going with a little “outside the box” thinking. Anything that breaks you away from the masses no matter how simple, will often pay off.

That being said I’m finding Lead Impact to be an “average” quality traffic source. And my love/hate feelings due to their constant overcharging for traffic has lead me to apply for a Traffic Vance account which is looking to be approved by next week. Oh yeah!!

I went to a local market store a few days ago, and i saw something that was really fascinating. The perfect sales process that had people tripping over each other to buy a freakin chamois. There on the corner of the busy markets was a guy with a stand promoting one of those super chamois things. I’m not sure what the name was exactly, but it was one of the offers that you see on TV.

He had a huge bowl of water on a desk, and was merrily splashing water every where and soaking it up with the super chamois cloth. Impressive. It must of held 2 million litres of water before he squeezed it out into the bowl. As he was demonstrating the range of cool stuff you with it, the sales process was in full swing.

It went something along he lines of, “Now you don’t have to buy this today, you can buy it on TV for $60. Blah…blah…But if you do buy it here today, you can have it for $20. And what i’m going to do is give you 2 of these super chamois for $20. I’ve only got seven left so if you want them, now would be the time to grab them.”

It was crazy what happened next. People from the crowd were ripping open there wallets, and purses and waving there money in the air at the guy, and tripping over themselves to get a super chamois. The excitement was contagious. I have to admit, i wanted to get one. This guy new his stuff. It was the perfect sales process. It made me think, the same basic principles apply to selling stuff online, but a lot of people just don’t know the basics of selling. It’s the reason why i didn’t make any money online for the first year or so. I thought it was all about good looking websites and driving traffic. The technical stuff. It wasn’t until i learned the basics of selling that i started making money.

You may have seen this Sham wow commercial, it was much the same as the guy at the markets. Get ready for a chuckle.

He might be the most annoying guy ever, but this stuff works like crazy.

Here’s the basic blueprint for :

How To Sell Stuff Online

(or anywhere for that matter)

Identify the problem

Aggravate the problem

Demonstrate the benefits for the customer

Add reasons why the customer should buy (made in Germany, sucks coke out of carpet… etc.)

Testimonials

Show proof

Poke the pain a little more (you’re going to spend $20 on paper towels each month any way. You’re throwing your money away)

Marketers know that pain or fear motivates people to action more than pleasure, desire or want.

More benefits

Introduce your price (the 4 Sham Wows sell for $19.95)

Add an element of scarcity or urgency (if you call now within the next 20 mins because we can’t do this all day)

Offer a special reduced price. Convince them they got the best deal possible and scored big time (8 sham wows for $19.95)

Add an outrageous guarantee. (10 year guarantee)

Ask for the order and make it easy. Tell them exactly what to do next, be specific and precise. Remove all the complexities, side issues and interruptions. (Call 1800-577-8038) easy!

Make it exclusive. Make them feel special that they have access to the product. (Sham Wow is not available in stores and is made in Germany)

How to sell even more stuff online…. After you have shown them how cool your product is and all the bonuses and goodies they’ll get. They may make the terrible mistake of clicking away from your page.

Those fools!

This is where the exit grabbers come on handy. They can increase sales by over 250%. But not many people are using them. (Google search “exit grabbers” and you’ll find plenty of software)

Offer them a reduced price, a special one time offer or a free sample or bonus of high perceived value. These are super effective because your customer feels like they just scored a special deal.

Even more effective is to offer them the whole thing for free for 7 days. Tell them “I’m not going to ask you to pay for it until you’ve had the chance to go through my awesome shit and see how cool it is for yourself.”
Send them to a secure order form (paypal) and arrange for the payment to come out 7 days after the order.
Then say something along the lines of “If, after you’ve seen the course/book you decide that it’s not for you… just cancel and i won’t charge you a cent. That’s right I’ll take all the risk! And if you decide to keep the stuff, you don’t need to do anything more, you’ll be billed automatically after the 7 day free trial.”

This uses the law of reciprocation as Cialdini talked about in his book: INFLUENCE. In the book Cialdini talked of the Regan experiment. Two guys went out to sell raffle tickets, Joe and Regan. One set of subjects were given a Coke first by Joe, then asked to buy raffle tickets. While the other group were not given coke then asked to buy raffle tickets by Regan. The first group who were given a Coke felt a sense of obligation to repay the favor, by buying a raffle ticket. The raffle tickets sold by Joe crushed the results that Regan had. The interesting thing was, it made no difference whether the subjects from the first group liked Joe or not, they still felt obligated to “repay the favor”.

It may seem very counter intuitive to give away your best stuff, it doesn’t make any sense, I know. But it just works. It’s the law of reciprocation. You do someone a favor, they feel compelled to repay you.

With these elements in place, you will be able to put together an irresistible offer that will satisfy your customers needs and boost your bank account.
